STATEMENT OF INTENT

For this project, I have chosen the theme “Metamorphosis”, meaning “a change of the form or nature of a thing or person into a completely different one”. This work will explore metamorphosis through the lens of horror in online media and cinema, a genre that often deals with physical transformation and distortion. By focusing on horror, I want to show how transformation can be disturbing and eye-catching to the viewer

The project will be divided into two chapters:
Transformations in Darkness and The Face of Horror.
Each chapter will explore how both faces and locations can be altered and manipulated, using techniques that distort the images. These distortions will reflect physical aspects of change.

I will experiment with photographic techniques like digital distortion and photomontage to create layered compositions. These methods will help show the idea of transformation. I have been inspired by horror by Craig Gibson, Andy Muschietti and James Wan.
I’m also interested in how metamorphosis is shown online, making new versions of ourselves through edits.

This project aims to explore how transformation, whether physical or digital, can be terrifying.
