Man Ray and Marcel Duchamp, collaborated on the 1920 photograph “Dust Breeding.” This image captured Duchamp’s artwork “The Large Glass” covered in a year’s worth of dust during his time in New York. The photograph, with a two-hour exposure, depicts the varied materials on the glass surface. After the photo, Duchamp cleaned most of the artwork but intentionally left a dusty section, permanently fixing it with diluted cement

It looks like the picture was taken both close up and far away. In one way it does look like dust and shavings on the ground, and the other it looks like an arial photo with some mountaines/dunes and roads.
We can see the light source is coming from the West of the image, shown by the shadows of the big particles.
In the Etchings we can see it looks 3D, due to the shadows created by the light source.
As the picture is cropped it distorts our sense of space. We cannot really tell the scale of the picture unless we know the backstory.
How will I use this for inspiration in my project?
I would use film for my photography in this prjetc, also shooting black and white, this is beacuse I feel as if this wilo give my work a more timeless feel to it, as if you take a picture right, you wont be able to tell if a picture was taken from the 40’s or Now.
